Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: Academic Programs

General engineering is an interdisciplinary, broadly focused major that studies concepts related to several engineering disciplines useful in diverse industries and enables flexibility in career choices. Their work is impactful and collaborative.  As you progress through this program, you will learn about the business implications of your ethically conducted work and how to effectively communicate ideas and innovations to a wide range of audiences. Upper level elective courses provide an opportunity for the student to pursue an engineering topic in more depth, or broaden their perspective with classes in disciplines such as management, mathematics, or another based on career aspirations.  This program of study builds upon a strong foundation of math, computer science, and the physical sciences. Because general engineering is highly interdisciplinary our program develops graduates who have skill sets that are desirable to many sectors outside of traditional engineering specialties. This means they bridge the gap between traditional areas such as electrical or mechanical engineering, and diverse roles in banking, consulting, finance and information technology.
