The Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Musical Theatre is a professional degree plan which provides training in musical theatre for aspiring actors, directors and teachers of musical theatre. Students in the major will be able to successfully perform and rehearse as a “triple threat” (actor/singer/dancer) in musical theatre, identify basic music theory components, identify the history and components of American musical theatre, identify major influences in American musical theatre, identify appropriate musical theatre productions for various audiences and venues, identify characters and themes from musical theatre repertoire and critique musical theatre productions. Upper level performance courses include Song Study, Scene Study, Musical Theatre Auditions, Musical Theatre Repertoire; students will also work on their musicianship (Music Theory, Aural Skills, and private voice lessons), as well as their dance skills (Jazz, Tap, Modern, and Ballet). Students will have the opportunity to perform in two fully-staged Broadway musicals each year.
