HIS 439 - Bodies, Belief, and Belonging in Medieval Europe3 Cr. Hrs. How did medieval people understand the world they lived in, both their own place and the people around them? This class takes up this question through exploring modern scholarship and medieval texts on medieval bodies, beliefs, and communities. It investigates questions about theological ramifications of bodies, the boundaries of communities, and the significance of beliefs in shaping medieval society. In answering these questions, students gain a clearer understanding of the medieval social imaginary and the ways that it shaped things like religion, politics, and law.
Prerequisite(s): Student has completed all of the following: HIS 1** and HIS 295. Grading Basis: Graded Repeatable: No Typical Periods Offered: Spring
