FRE 111 - Elementary French Language and Culture I

An introduction to the sound system and grammatical structure necessary to develop listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in French. An appreciation of French speaking culture underlies the orientation of the course.

Open to students with no prior knowledge of the French language and those who have successfully completed one or two high school classes. 

May not be taken by native speakers of French. 

Students with two or more high school language credits may take the Foreign Language Placement Test during orientation with the option of being placed at a higher level. Students with prior study in educational institutions in which French is the primary language are not allowed to receive credit for the elementary level of the native language. They should complete the 111-112 sequence of another language.
