Letter From The President

Welcome to Anderson University!

Anderson is still one of the South’s more academically selective and rigorous universities and the largest private university in the State of South Carolina! Anderson is not easy to get into or out of. We take your education seriously and believe the best way to learn is to challenge you, so that’s what we’re going to do. We want you to be successful, and to live a meaningful, virtuous life.

With all my heart and mind, I believe Anderson University is one of the most special universities in the world. So, to our first year students, welcome to this incredibly special place, and to our returning students, welcome back to the beautiful campus we all love.

Underlying everything taught at AU, is an extra commitment. Here’s what you can expect from us, this year:

  • An unshakable commitment to an authentically Christian environment and timeless educational philosophy
  • A commitment to helping you achieve your aspirations and dreams
  • A commitment to helping you develop virtuous habits

     - Cardinal virtues - WISDOM, using good judgment, being fair and just to others, JUSTICE, being fair and treating everyone equally;  FORTITUDE, having courage to do the right thing; and TEMPERANCE, using self-control, not going to the extreme

    - Theological virtues - FAITH, believing God and his teachings, that he’s trustworthy and he has a plan for your life; HOPE, trusting God will see you through tough times and has a future for you; and LOVE, loving God above all things, and others selflessly

  • A commitment to helping you learn the nature of money and how to manage it soundly
  • A commitment to helping you become a professional (we want AU grads to set the standard and rise above the competition)

Here we view life as a journey…gifted to each of us by God and filled with choices and possibilities every step of the way.

I encourage you to consider that the greatest danger to becoming the person you were meant to be is to fall into the trap of complacency. Anderson University itself is a very good place, and our greatest challenge is to energize one another to make certain that as good as we are, we are continuously cultivating the desire, ability, and expectation to improve on what we do. You can do the same.

Have a great year at AU!

Cordially,

Evans P. Whitaker, Ph.D.
