Introduction to an engineering-centric view of life processes emphasizing engineering analysis and design. The structure, form, and function of biomolecules - lipids, carbohydrates, and proteins. Cells as factories - gene-based controlled template synthesis of proteins. Biochemical pathways as networks. Cellular energetics and energy balances. Cells, tissues and organs - the cell cycle - mechanical, electrical, and chemical influences. Systems biology and physiology.
