Mechanical Engineering, B.S.

Mechanical engineering may be defined as the design, manufacture, application, analysis, installation, operation and maintenance of mechanical systems and machinery and as engineering practice that brings to bear the fundamental concepts and practices of statics, dynamics, thermodynamics and software or hardware engineering to bear on technology solutions. Mechanical Engineers seek to innovate the modern world by applying some of the oldest and broadest engineering principles, many devised during the Industrial Revolution. Mechanical engineers are versatile and work in many industries. Crash safety of the latest automobiles, improved lightweight aircraft, life saving biomedical devices, economical energy production, and enhanced-capability robotics all involve heavy contribution from mechanical engineers. Their work is impactful and collaborative. With an emphasis on “manufacturing and design for manufacturability” this program of study stresses the production and fabrication of engineering products, along with concern for societal stewardship and sustainability. Furthermore, you will learn about the business implications of your ethically conducted work and how to effectively communicate ideas and innovations to a wide range of audiences
