Communication: Public Relations, B.A.

Students who earn a Bachelor of Arts in Communication will be prepared to work in today's global communication network in a broad range of fields, including public relations, corporate communication, social media management, convergent journalism, advertising, marketing, and sales, as well as for churches and Christian ministries.

The Public Relations concentration gives students basic communication and public relations skills. Writing for a variety of editorial platforms (organization websites, print/broadcast news, blogs, social media, etc.) is emphasized. In addition, the public relations concentration encompasses coursework in public relations principles, research, strategic campaign management, and crisis management.

  • Intercultural Inquiry: FOR LANG 112 or higher

Major Core Requirements (30 Cr. Hrs.)


Eighteen of these hours are required of all Communication majors and 12 are specific to the Public Relations concentration.

Major Core Electives (12 Cr. Hrs.)


Students may take any other Communication (COM prefix) course as a major elective. (At least six hours must be at the 300 or 400 levels.) The following cognates can also be used as major electives for the Public Relations concentration - MKT 331 - Principles of Marketing  and MKT 413 - Advertising and Promotion .
