The Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Acting is designed to give students the rigorous training necessary to begin work as professional actors or to be prepared for further study at the graduate level. Students are offered courses designed to help them develop vocal and physical presence, imagination and concentration. In addition, students are introduced to playwrights that span the theatrical cannon and are encouraged to develop a facility for the language and sensibilities of multiple time periods. Students are given the opportunity to explore and incorporate the acting techniques of many different theorists including Constantin Stanislavski, Uta Hagen, Sanford Meisner, Viola Spolin and Michael Chekhov among others. They are given opportunities to perform in the classroom and in main-stage productions and to receive feedback from peers and faculty mentors. The major is intended to release and nurture the creative spirit in the individual theatre-artist through improvisation, intellectual stimulation and faculty mentorship.
