BIO 420 - Neuropharmacology4 Cr. Hrs. This course will build on previous neuroscience courses focusing on the basics of neurophysiology, neuronal signaling, and neuroanatomy. The course will begin with an overview on diseases that affect the nervous/neuromuscular system, ranging from neurodevelopmental disorders through neurodegenerative diseases associated with aging. We will focus on current treatments for these disorders, including current research and clinical trials looking to treat diseases like Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and epilepsy. Lastly this class will look at the effects of recreational substances and their effects on the brain, looking at the short and long term effects these compounds have on the brain, assessing both positive and negative consequences these molecules have on neurophysiology.
