In the first three semesters, Honors students take three Foundations courses which cover the span of Western and Christian thought from antiquity to the 21st Century. Students study philosophy, history, literature, theology, and the arts to show how they intersect with the Christian faith. In each course students engage topics from a Christian perspective, while also developing and expressing their views on relevant questions and perennial problems.
Each Honors student takes Apologetics, a course that focuses on apologetic method and theological reasoning. Honors students will study the proofs for God’s existence, the problem of evil and suffering, and issues related to the intelligibility of Christianity. The course includes a capstone project and equips students to articulate their positions on contemporary challenges to the Christian faith.
Additionally, the Honors College offers several elective courses, including Christian Ethics, Science & Faith, and Interdisciplinary Topics. Each student finishes the program by completing an Honors Senior Seminar, which brings culminating focus and application to the experience.
Students enrolled in the Honors College must fulfill the Core Curriculum requirements for their degree, but Honors students can fulfill some Core Curriculum requirements by successfully completing select Honors courses.
Students who complete the Honors College curriculum receive special notation on their academic record in addition to recognition at the annual Honors Convocation and Commencement.
Honors College students enjoy an experience designed for high-performing individuals. The curriculum is tailored to produce critical thinkers, independent learners, and creative problem solvers. Overall, the Honors College provides a solid foundation for future stages of educational development in undergraduate and graduate studies.
