This course develops foundational knowledge and skills within the context of K-6 classrooms. Course content addresses the theoretical and evidence-based foundations of literacy, dimensions of diversity, and considerations for dual-language learners. Candidates examine current issues in literacy education, conduct guided observations in K-6 classrooms, and critique relevant research. Prerequisite: Completion of Benchmark I.
