Leadership and Learning: School and Community Leadership, EdD


The Doctor of Education in Leadership and Learning is designed to prepare working professionals to lead, teach, and consult in the public and private sectors.  This program will equip individuals with the highest level of scholarship and practical experience relevant to service in traditional public, private, and online education settings, as well in educational businesses, churches, or non-profit organizations.    

Completion of this degree program will provide an enhanced credential with increased credibility in the workplace.  This program, which includes two concentrations, provides candidates with opportunities to engage in scholarship, internship, research, and the development of professional competencies in these areas:

  • Leadership for Transformative Action in Educational Settings
  • Leadership for Developing Innovative Learning Environments
  • Leadership for Supporting Instructional Excellence   
  • Leadership for Facilitating Critical Change in Communities
  • Leadership in Investigating Contemporary Issues in Education

The EdD in Leadership and Learning provides two distinct pathways for students to pursue individual goals and interests:

School and Community Leadership Concentration

The EdD in Leadership and Learning (School and Community Leadership Concentration) is designed to prepare candidates for leadership roles in K-12 public schools, private schools, educational non-profit organizations or other non-traditional educational settings. In addition to the core curriculum, preparation in this concentration includes advanced research and study in the following areas: human resources in education, finance for educational settings, assessment and evaluation for educational effectiveness, and theories of school and community leadership.

School and Community Leadership Concentration (9 Cr. Hrs.)


Students must take at least three courses from the list below.

Electives (6 Cr. Hrs.)


Students must take at least two courses from the list below.

-Pre-approved doctoral coursework from another College or School at AU
-Pre-approved global engagement experience through AU
-Pre-approved independent study experience with a College of Education faculty member
