Bachelor of Arts in Music

The Bachelor of Arts in Music is a perfect fit for musicians with ambitious goals and diverse interests.

Core Classes

The BA in Music deepens your understanding and hones your skill with a strong core of music theory, history, and individual and ensemble performance. Additionally, you’ll be introduced to contemporary music recording and composition technology and ensemble leadership.

Choosing a Minor…or a Second Major

You’ll choose a minor and can take several electives, enabling you to specialize your studies to fit your calling. Tailor your music degree to fit your interests or prepare for a career that combines music with other disciplines. With your BA in Music, you can also pursue a second major or be equipped for graduate study in fields from music ministry to music therapy.

Your Future

The BA in Music, while still flexible, is stronger in music than similar degrees at other institutions, requiring more credits in private instruction. Plus, we allow you to receive more credits for your participation in ensembles.

Our graduates have continued their education at Westminster Choir College for Choral Conducting and Middle Tennessee State for studio recording degrees. Many now perform, conduct, and teach in higher education. Successful music ministers and worship leaders at a wide range of churches have studied at AU. Other AU music grads have built successful careers as performers in commercial music. Our program’s flexibility also complements your pursuit of degrees and careers in fields such as business, ministry, and education.

Careers for which our BA in Music have prepared alumni include:

  • Successful performers

  • Prominent contemporary and traditional music ministers

  • Published composers

  • Music therapists

  • Music technology professionals

  • Professionals in a variety of other fields
