ENGR 330 - Engineering Materials

3 Cr. Hrs.
This is a required, terminal course on the fundamentals of engineering materials for all Engineering majors. The course emphasizes the chemical basis of structure, function, and properties of materials as viewed from the standpoint of the chemical nature of the atomic, molecular and bonding characteristics of the material’s building blocks. Mechanical, electrical, optical, and degradation properties are shown to originate from the fundamental chemical composition, bonding, processing and time-temperature-exposure history of materials. Metals, ceramics, polymers and nanomaterials allow materials selection and design decisions as it relates to the performance of materials for a given application.

Prerequisite(s): CHE 111 / CHE 113; PHY 201/ PHY 203; permission of the instructor
Grading Basis: Graded Repeatable: No Typical Periods Offered: Fall
