This course is designed to provide students with the concepts to form the ability to analyze contemporary social welfare policy issues and programs in the United States and to understand the relationship between social policy and human services practice. Topics include, influence of social, political, and economic forces, as well as policies affecting individuals, families and children, and social groups. Assignments are based on case studies, practical experiences, ethical dilemmas and a final project designed to allow students to demonstrate mastery of the course context. Prerequisite(s): HS 101
