2023-2024 Graduate Catalog

Addendums - New Graduate Programs

The below addendums to the 2023-2024 Graduate Academic Catalog supersede the information that has been previously published online and/or printed. The following changes have been approved by university leadership.

Computer Science, M.S.

Beginning Spring semester (January 8th, 2024) we will be adding a Master of Science in Computer Science to our catalog. Further information about the program is available within the Academic Programs section of the catalog. Students will begin the program taking mostly existing courses within the 2023-2024 Graduate catalog. Two of the newly created courses for the program will start within the 2023-2024 catalog year cycle (COSC-625 and COSC-610). The remaining new courses will be published to the 2024-2025 Graduate catalog as they will not be offered until the following academic year. The program description follows:

This degree builds upon three areas of expertise that AU already offers at the undergraduate and graduate levels: 1) Coding and programming, 2) Data and Cybersecurity, and 3) Business management and analytics. We believe that exposure to both the theoretical and practical applications of technology will help students acquire the skills needed to discern the most direct path in the journey from idea to application. With this graduate program, students will gain a well-rounded skillset in both abstract and practical thinking from a core of computer science and coding courses. They will extend and diversify this knowledge base with cybersecurity and business courses that will enhance career outcomes and prepare graduates for roles in software development, network and systems engineering, network analyst, and more.

In-person attendance is required in all weekend intensive meetings.  Zoom attendance is required in all scheduled online meetings, as described in each course syllabus.

International students are required to be enrolled full-time and register for the appropriate course when applying for Curricular Practical Training (CPT) authorization.

Professional Business Analytics, M.S.

Beginning Summer semester (May 6th, 2024) we will be adding a Master of Science in Professional Business Analytics to our catalog. Further information about the program is available within the Academic Programs section of the catalog. Students will begin the program taking mostly existing courses within the 2023-2024 Graduate catalog. The one newly created course for the program will start within the 2023-2024 catalog year cycle (BUS-596). The program description follows:

The MS in Professional Business Analytics prepares professionals to develop the skills necessary to make data-driven decisions by collecting, organizing, and describing data-sets with the added component of a required on-the-job experience (This degree requires students to have previous work experience, be working currently in a full-time or part-time position, completing an internship, or job shadowing.)

The program necessitates students to be able to infer and make predictions based on data to make optimal business decisions. Assignments will be pulled from real business situations that may or may not be currently experienced by the students in the course. Yet, all may gain valuable business experience in solving problems. Business Analytics is fast becoming a key skill needed by companies competing in a fast-paced and often unpredictable business environment.

While the MSPBA is very similar to the MS in Business Analytics, the program is designed for the working professional. Although students are performing on-the-job requirements of an employer, all class activities must be attended. This includes in-person attendance in all intensive meetings and attendance is required in all scheduled online meetings, as described in each course syllabus.

Information Technology Management, M.S.

Beginning Summer semester (May 6th, 2024) we will be adding a Master of Science in Information Technology Management to our catalog. Newly created courses for the program will start within the 2024-2025 catalog year cycle. The program description follows:
