Goal:
To give students foundation knowledge of the Old and New Testaments, to provide a methodology for continued hermeneutical study of the Bible, and to introduce the concepts of a personal Christian worldview as a guide for belief and behavior.
[HB] 2. Knowledge of human behaviors and structures
Goal:
To provide a foundational knowledge of psychological and sociological make up and behaviors of individuals and groups.
[HP] 3. Knowledge of global historical perspectives
Goals:
To explore examples of major cultural, social, political, and religious influences as a way of understanding the formation of contemporary social structures. To enable students to apply historical perspectives in order to analyze, understand and evaluate major developments and events in history, and to utilize the study of the past as a means of practicing Christian virtues such as empathy, charity and respect for others.
[NW] 4. Knowledge of the physical and natural world
Goal:
To provide students with the methodologies to systematically study and understand, through observation and experimentation, the structures and behaviors of the created physical and natural world, and to recognize the interdependence of humanity and the natural environment, and the value of the Christian virtue of stewardship.
[CT] 5. Critical thinking: inquiry and analysis and creative problem-solving
Goal:
To enable students to clearly formulate vital questions and problems, gather, assess and interpret relevant information, and come to well-reasoned conclusions. Students should be able to think open-mindedly within alternative systems of thought and communicate effectively with others in creating solutions to complex problems.
[IL] 6. Information literacy
Goal:
To provide practical research skills that enable students to identify, locate, and use multiple types of information resources and compare multiple source materials as they seek and assess the validity of information in a rapidly evolving technological environment. Faculty and Librarians both work with students in person, online, and via print instruction, to meet these ends.
[DL] 7. Technological and digital literacy
Goal:
To provide students with the experience and skills needed to work productively with digital tools to collect, analyze, process, create and present information in a variety of digital formats.
[QL] 8. Quantitative literacy
Goal:
To enable students to presents accurate calculations and symbolic operations, and explain how such calculations and operations are used in either his or her specific field of study or in interpreting social and economic trends. To enable students to translates verbal problems into mathematical algorithms and constructs valid mathematical arguments.
[WC] 9. Written communication
Goal:
To enable students to clearly and professionally communicate in a variety of written formats.
[OC] 10. Oral communication
Goal:
To enable students to clearly and professionally present information and positions orally.
[SA] 11. Synthesis and advanced accomplishment across general and specialized studies
Goal:
To require students to utilize knowledge, skills and experiences gained within both core and majors classes to complete advanced projects at the upper level. Advanced upper course level experiences, such as internships, research projects/publications/presentations, performances, exhibitions, field placements, etc., would be required of all undergraduate students, but could be fulfilled by requirements within the major areas of study.
[ME] 12. Moral and ethical reasoning and action
Goal:
To introduce philosophical principles of right and wrong behavior, in relation to personal, historical and contemporary social problems, and to investigate a rational and intentional application of Christian beliefs to guide one’s decision making and actions in response to such issues.
[PP] 13. Professional, interpersonal and digital communication skills and preparedness
Goal:
To teach students to appropriately present themselves in a variety of interpersonal and professional, public or formal situations and environments, including interview opportunities, workplace settings, and social media and other online/digital communication venues and platforms.
[TD] 14. Collaboration and teamwork dynamics
Goal:
For students to learn the various types of contributing, facilitating, and leadership roles necessary for solving complex problems within a group dynamic.
[CD] 15. Intercultural awareness and understanding
Goal:
To ensure that students have opportunities to develop a greater appreciation for diverse cultures, enhance their cross-cultural communication skills, and prepare to work in an expanding global economy.
[CE] 16. Local, national and global citizenship and civic engagement
Goal:
To enable students to understand the mechanisms of the public bodies that govern their communities, as well their own rights and duties as citizens. To enable students to evaluate diverse points of view related to contested public issues, develop and justify a position on such issues, and collaborate with others in the development and implementation of solutions to problematic civic issues.
[AE] 17. Aesthetic engagement through creative production or reflective patronage of the arts
Goal:
To engage students in creative experiences as audience members/viewers or practitioners of the arts, and to reflect on such aesthetic experiences, as well as the personal and cultural value of the arts.
[HW] 18. Habits of physical health and well-being
Goal:
To provide practical knowledge and skills related to issues of physical fitness and health, including diet, exercise and stress management, and to instill a personal accountability for the maintenance of one’s own health and wellness.
